Interdisciplinary Experts Committee for Examining the Climate in Israel

In July 2021, The Israel Academy of Sciences and Humanities (IASH) announced the establishment of an interdisciplinary expert committee to examine the full range of climate-related issues in Israel and recommend modes of action to address them. The committee was established in light of the growing importance of this topic in Israel and worldwide and in accordance with the statutory role of IASH to advise the government on issues of national importance in the area of research and scientific planning, including the provision of national assessments.

The committee's activities will focus on the following topics:

Surveying all the institutions active in the climate field in Israel, including higher education institutions, research funds, government ministries, NGOs and international bodies active in this field.
Assessment of current and future national needs in the climate field and of the country’s preparedness, on the broader national level and specifically within the academic community’s research and development frameworks.
Preparing a proposal for developing climate research in Israel and training researchers and experts to address the needs.
Promoting scientific cooperation between various institutions dealing with climate research in Israel.
Surveying new and developing climate research fields.
Examining the use of national infrastructures to expand the capabilities of the academic community in this field.
