Report on the State of the Sciences in Israel – 2019

The triennial Report of the Israel Academy of Sciences and Humanities on the State of the Sciences in Israel – 2019 has been submitted to the Goverment under the terms of Item 4(c) of the Israel Academy of Sciences and Humanities Law (1961), as amended in 2010.

The purpose of the Report is to point out achievements, gaps and challenges in Israel’s academic research in the past three years, for the sake of advancing and reinforcing science and research in the State of Israel.

The Committee on the State of the Sciences was appointed for the purpose of composing the triennial report by the President of the Israel Academy of Sciences and Humanities, Prof. Nili Cohen. The committee appointed eight specialized subcommittees to examine the following subjects: international scientific relations, national laboratories, the state of the humanities, the state of the social sciences, medical research, relations between the academic institutions and the Planning and Budgeting Committee of the Council for Higher Education, relations between the academic institutions and the government, and costs vs. productivity. These subcommittees gathered and analyzed the relevant data in their particular fields, and their conclusions are detailed in the relevant chapters in the body of the report. The central committee assembled the conclusions of the subcommittees, held discussions, fact-finding tours and meetings, and produced a comprehensive overview, which is presented in full in the Report.
