Israel Academy Postdoctoral Fellowships for Foreign Researchers in Israel – Inaugural Event

The new Israel Academy of Sciences and Humanities (IASH) Program for Foreign Postdoctoral Students includes informal gatherings in order to create a cohesive group of young researchers. To this end the program held its Inaugural Event on Tuesday, November 20th , beginning with a tour of the City of David, under the expert guidance of Dr. Eyal Meiron of the Department of Land of Israel Studies and Archaeology of Bar-Ilan University.
 
The first class of nine fellows, who came from several universities around the country, was accompanied on the tour by Prof. Moti Segev, Chair of the Academy’s Committee and three additional committee members, Prof. Moshe Deutch, Prof. Ron Lifshitz and Prof. Lital Alfonta. They were joined by Prof. Assaf Vardi, one of the PhD advisors.
 
Following the tour, the group met at the Academy House with the Academy President Prof. Nili Cohen and Prof. Itamar Willner, Chair of the program’s steering committee and Chair of the Sciences Division and with Academy Member Prof. David Milstein.
 
Following lunch, Academy Member Prof. Haim Cedar fascinated the students with his lecture on “Annotating the Book of Life’. The Academy President expressed her wish that following their studies in Israel, the young researches will become ambassadors of good will on behalf of Israeli science.
