Joint Conference with the Indian National Science Academy on Astrophysics and Planetary Sciences

A joint conference on Astrophysics and Planetary Sciences was held by the Israel Academy of Sciences and Humanities and the Indian National Science Academy in Jerusalem, December 2-3, 2019, with the participation of researchers and practitioners in the field from both countries.
 
Eight scientists from India and eleven from Israel participated in the two-day conference, which was attended by a number of students and researchers. The organizing committee was co-chaired by Prof. Oded Aharonson of the Weizmann Institute and Prof. Re’em Sari of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, together with Indian National Science Academy members Prof. Anil Bhardwaj and Prof. K. P. Singh.
 
Academy President Prof. Nili Cohen spoke at the opening of the conference, and mentioned the long-term and very warm relations between the two academies, and between Israel and India.
 
The workshop focused on five main areas: radio astronomy, galaxies, supernovae, exoplanets, and space missions. Recent discoveries and future prospects were presented by both Indian and Israeli researchers.
