A bi-national Italian-Israeli workshop entitled Arabic Language and Islamic Heritage: Historical Background and Contemporary Perspectives was held at the Academy in Jerusalem on May 9–11, 2017. Prof. Gabriel M. Rosenbaum of the Hebrew University, Director of the Israeli Academic Center in Cairo, initiated and organized the event, aided on the Organizing Committee by Academy member Prof. Etan Kohlberg. Six Israelis from four universities and four Italians participated in the workshop (one of them via videoconference).

The workshop was highly successful, scientifically and socially, and the Italian participants expressed their wish for a continuation both of this framework and of Italian-Israeli cooperation in these scholarly fields. Prof. Carmela Baffioni, a member of the Italian Accademia dei Lincei, promised to do all she could to promote further bi-national activities.
