08/11/2024
Academy President Prof. David Harel participated on November 8 in a round table discussion at the Falling Walls Science Summit during Berlin Science Week. The discussion focused on mechanisms and practical approaches to strengthen global science both between and within countries, particularly during times of international crises.

During the discussion, Prof. Harel emphasized the importance of the cross-border nature of scientific research, especially in times of political tension. He spoke out against academic boycotts, particularly those targeting Israeli scientists and research institutions in light of the ongoing war, emphasizing that scientific collaboration must continue unimpeded to address urgent global challenges.

Prof. Harel also addressed the crucial importance of recognition and encouragement of science by political leaders, especially against the backdrop of elections in Germany and the United States, and shared with participants some of the challenges currently existing in Israel. He emphasized that governmental support for science is a vital component in the resilience of any advanced nation.
