Annual Lectures

The Annual Einstein Memorial Lectures

In 1979, following the international symposium held at the Academy in March of that year to commemorate the centennial of Albert Einstein’s birth, the Academy Council decided to establish a series of distinguished memorial lectures in the natural sciences, to be delivered annually on or around Einstein’s birthday on March 14. Past lecturers have included several Nobel Laureates.

The Annual Buber Memorial Lectures

In 2009, its jubilee year, the Council of the Israel Academy of Sciences and Humanities decided to establish an annual lecture series named for the Academy’s first president, Prof. Martin Buber. The lectures in the series are on a range of topics in the humanities and social sciences and target a broad audience of scholars and laypersons.

The Annual Darwin Memorial Lectures

The Israel Academy of Sciences and Humanities decided in 2021 to institute an annual lecture in memory of Charles Darwin, in addition to the annual Albert Einstein and Martin Buber memorial lectures, which have been held there for many years. The topics of the Darwin Memorial Lectures will include matters related to the environment, evolution, climate, and biology. The first Darwin Memorial Lecture, which is planned for 2023, will be given by Professor Richard Dawkins.
