Academy President participated in German-Israeli diplomatic milestone event in Berlin

19/03/2025
On March 19, Academy President Prof. David Harel participated in the main event marking 60 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations between Israel and Germany. The event was organized by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) in Berlin, in cooperation with the Israeli Ministry of Innovation, Science and Technology and other leading institutions. The event highlighted decades of fruitful scientific collaboration between the two countries, focusing on past achievements and the development of future opportunities in research and innovation.During the event, Prof. Harel spoke with the German Federal Minister of Education and Research, Mr. Cem Özdemir.

Also during his visit to Berlin, Prof. Harel held a working meeting with Prof. Bettina Rockenbach, the newly elected President of the German National Academy of Sciences – Leopoldina. The two academies have maintained close scientific ties since 2013. In light of the growing academic boycott targeting Israeli institutions and scientists due to the ongoing war in Gaza and the judicial reforms being promoted in Israel, the meeting focused on strengthening the partnership and planning future joint scientific events. This meeting reflects the mutual determination to safeguard and expand academic cooperation even in complex times.
