As July 2025 draws to a close, the Israel Academy of Sciences and Humanities welcomed three distinguished diplomatic visits, highlighting its global stature and ongoing commitment to fostering international scientific collaboration.
The first visit took place on Monday, July 28, when the Academy welcomed the Ambassador of Poland to Israel, Mr. Maciej Hunia. He was received by Academy President, Professor David Harel, former President, Professor Nili Cohen, Division Chairs, Professor Sergiu Hart and Professor Yadin Dudai, Academy members, Professor Israel Bartal, Professor Avner Holtzman, and Professor Marek Karliner (Chair of the National Committee for High Energy Physics at the Academy), as well as Director General Ms. Esther Sivan and Director of International Affairs Ms. Liat Mandelbaum Shor. The discussion focused on the strong ties with the Polish Academy of Sciences and the importance of ensuring their continuity in the current regional context.
On Tuesday, July 29, the Academy hosted two back-to-back visits. In the morning, the Ambassador of Italy to Israel, Mr. Luca Ferrari, arrived accompanied by Counsellor Ludovica Laviani, First Secretary Federico Castelli, and Scientific Attaché Professor Giuseppe Falini. Later that day, the Academy welcomed the Ambassador of Canada to Israel, Ms. Leslie Scanlon, who was joined by Mr. Jean-Denis Dufour, Second Secretary and Trade Attaché.

Discussions with the Italian delegation centered on collaboration with the Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei, while the Canadian visit focused on the potential renewal of the agreement with the Royal Society of Canada and the growing relationship between the Israel Young Academy and the Canadian Young Academy.
All three visits were marked by warm, thoughtful dialogue and a shared vision for advancing international scientific cooperation. They reflect the Academy’s ongoing dedication to excellence in research and to strengthening Israel’s role in the global scientific community.
