The poems in this anthology, compiled after the examination of thousands of fragments from the Cairo Genizah, were chosen for their individual literary value. The book's five sections are devoted, respectively, to the Middle East and North Africa; the Spanish school; regional secular poems by anonymous authors; Maqammat; and miscellaneous genres.
