Hebrew Writings of the Author of Tiqqunei Zohar and Ra'aya Mehemna

Author(s):
Series: Sources and Studies in the History of Jewish Thought and Religion
Introduction by Moshe Idel.
This book comprises the first publication of two manuscripts composed in Hebrew by an anonymous kabbalist who was also the author of two main Zoharic tracts: Tiqqunei Zohar and Ra'aya Mehemna. These texts, identified, edited, and copiously annotated by the late Efraim Gottlieb before his premature death in 1973, expand our understanding of the Kabbalah as it was articulated in Castile in the late thirteenth and early fourteenth centuries. A few pages of one tract were annotated by M. Idel, who also wrote the introduction.
The notes elucidate the biblical and rabbinic sources to which the texts allude as well as parallels in various Kabbalistic writings, especially those of the Castilian Kabbalah.
The volume concludes with detailed index to both the texts and the notes.
