News in Brief | Introductory Meeting with Uzbekistan Academy of Sciences

On December 10, 2020, the Israel Academy of Sciences and Humanities held an online introductory meeting with the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
 
The meeting was led by Academy presidents Prof. Nili Cohen and Prof. Bekhzod Yuldashev, who presented the Academies, their activities and interests, and discussed potential future cooperation. The introduction was made following a visit to the Israel Academy by the Uzbekistan Ambassador to Israel, Ms. Feruza Makhmudova, earlier in December.
 
Israel Academy Vice-President Prof. David Harel and Academy members Prof. Moty Heiblum and Prof. Michal Biran participated in the meeting, presenting their fields (Computer science, Physics, and Near Eastern studies, respectively). From the Uzbekistan Academy of Sciences participated Prof. Bakhtiyar Ibragimov, Vice-president (Biology, chemistry and life sciences Department), Prof. Sadulla Bakhramov, acting Vice-president (Physics and mathematics department), and Prof. Bahrom Abduhalimov, Vice-president (Humanities and Social sciences department), and Akbar Makhmudjonov, Head of International Relations Department.
 
An initial Memorandum of Understanding regarding scientific cooperation was signed between the two academies in 1999.
