The Israel Young Academy marked its tenth anniversary on September 18, 2022, with a day-long seminar for its current and past members, held at the Israel Academy building in Jerusalem.
The seminar opened with a session on the Young Academy and its alumni as agents of change, chaired by
Professor Haim Beidenkopf, immediate past Chair of the Young Academy’s Steering Committee, with the participation of the nine former chairpersons.
The first sesson.
The second session, also chaired by Prof. Beidenkopf, was titled “The Young Academy and the Academy: Past, Present, and Future.” Participating in the session were
Prof. David Harel, President of The Israel Academy of Sciences and Humanities; former Israel Academy President
Prof. Ruth Arnon; Prof. Yossi Mekori, Chair of the Planning and Budgeting Committee of the Council for Higher Education (CHE); and Prof. Yaffa Silberschatz, former Chair of the Planning and Budgeting Committee.
The second session.
Activism in the Academy was the topic of the third session, led by
Prof. Beena Kalisky, Chair of the Israel Young Academy’s Steering Committee. Participants included Prof. Uri Sivan, President of the Technion – Israel Institute of Technology; Israel Academy Member
Prof. Yonina Eldar, an alumna of the Young Academy and current Chair of the Committee for Evaluating Gender Equality Programs in Higher Education Institutions at the CHE; Young Academy alumna
Prof. Mona Khoury-Kassabri, Vice President for Strategy and Diversity at The Hebrew University of Jerusalem; and Prof. Manuel Trajtenberg, former Chair of the CHE’s Planning and Budgeting Committee.
The third session.
The fourth and last session, on making science accessible, was chaired by Young Academy alumna
Prof. Ayelet Baram-Tsabari. The participants were
Prof. Yadin Dudai, Chair of the Sciences Division of The Israel Academy of Sciences and Humanities;
Prof. Liad Mudrik, a member of the Young Academy’s Steering Committee; current Young Academy Member
Prof. Oded Rechavi, and Dr. Liat Ben David, CEO of the Davidson Institute of Science Education at the Weizmann Institute of Science.
