Dr. Abhishek Maiti

Dr. Abhishek Maiti obtained his BSc and MSc from Jadavpur University in India. He was subsequently granted the prestigious DST-INSPIRE Fellowship by the Government of India to join the School of Physical Sciences at the Indian Association for the Cultivation of Science (IACS) where he carried out his doctoral research work in the research group of Prof. Amlan J. Pal.

Dr. Maiti’s research interests span the areas of experimental condensed matter physics and material science. He has specific interests in advanced functional and quantum materials towards optoelectronics and spintronic applications. In his doctoral research, he studied the behavior of electrons, spins, excitons, and phonons in an emerging class of materials called metal halide perovskites and published fifteen papers in internationally reputed journals.

Over the course of his PhD studies, Dr. Maiti was awarded various prestigious prizes, such as the Young Scientist Award by the Material Research Society of India, the Young Achiever Award by the Institute of Scholars, and several best oral and poster presentation prizes. In addition, he was selected for the Newton Bhabha PhD placement program of the British Council and DST India to carry out a short-term research project at Lancaster University in the UK.

Dr. Maiti’s postdoctoral research as part of the IASH CHE Excellence Fellowship Program is taking place at the Technion-Israel Institute of Technology, hosted by Prof. Efrat Lifshitz, where he is working on the magneto-optical detection of the Rashba and Dresselhaus effect in nanomaterials.
