In a comprehensive interview published in German Table Media, Prof. David Harel, President of the Israel Academy of Sciences and Humanities, expresses deep concern about the state of humanities and research in Israel.
Harel addresses the main challenges facing Israeli academia: proposed legislation that could harm academic freedom, significant budget cuts, and blatant attempts at political interference in higher education institutions. At the same time, he warns of a worrying "brain drain" phenomenon - young and promising scientists leaving Israel.
In the interview, conducted following an Israeli-German conference in Berlin last December, Harel emphasizes the importance of international scientific collaboration and strongly opposes calls to boycott Israeli academia.
